President Dr. Irfaan Ali met today with the contractor, China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC); the consultant, Sheladia Associates Inc.; engineers; and the traffic management team overseeing the rehabilitation and expansion of the East Bank Public Road.

During the meeting, the President expressed strong concerns regarding the pace of the project and the compliance with traffic arrangements. He also raised issues with the police about the disregard for traffic rules and road safety, particularly by trucks.

Following discussions, the contractor and consultant were instructed to submit a revised work plan within 24 hours. Several measures were also agreed upon, including the establishment of an integrated control room and the introduction of a traffic management drone system.

An early warning system and an emergency transport plan, in collaboration with the Coast Guard and the Marine Section of the Guyana Police Force, will be implemented to assist persons travelling to Cheddi Jagan International Airport during unforeseen circumstances.
