The Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha Essequibo Coast Praant on Saturday evening hosted its Annual Deep Jale, officially marking the start of the Diwali season on the Essequibo Coast.

A beautifully designed Goddess Lakshmi structure, created by the Essequibo Coast Dharmic Naujawan Youth Arm, was erected in front of the Anna Regina Town Council to illuminate the town throughout the festive period. The symbolic diya was lit by Morning Glory Inc. Office Manager, Indrawattie Natram, alongside Regional Chairman Devin Mohan and members of the Praant. The event was sponsored by Morning Glory Inc.

In her remarks, Ms. Natram said the company was honoured to partner with the Sabha for the second consecutive year, emphasizing Morning Glory Inc.’s commitment to community development.

“Our factory operates right here in this township, and there is no better way to show our appreciation than by supporting events that unite and uplift our people,” she stated.

She added that the sponsorship forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts.

Regional Chairman Devin Mohan commended the Sabha for its role in promoting cultural unity.

“Diwali brings immeasurable joy, peace, and happiness. It kindles within us that burning flame of divinity,” he said, while pledging the Regional Democratic Council’s continued support for cultural initiatives in Region Two.

Pandit Kaydar Persaud, President of the Essequibo Coast Praant, explained that “Deep” means lamp and “Jale” means to burn, symbolizing the illumination of hearts and communities. He extended pre-Diwali greetings and encouraged residents to participate in the upcoming celebrations.

The evening featured vibrant cultural performances by youth groups and dancers from across the region. The Praant’s upcoming activities include the Inter-Secondary School Rangoli Competition on October 15 at Abram Zuil Secondary, and the Grand Motorcade on October 16 at the Anna Regina Car Park.
