The Ministry of Housing and Water – Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) is advancing plans to boost operational efficiency and service delivery in Region One with the establishment of a new Regional Housing Office in Mabaruma.
On Friday, Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin D. Croal, visited the construction site to inspect progress on the new office. The CH&PA unit will be housed within the Guyana Water Incorporated’s (GWI) new regional building, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The new office will provide residents with improved access to essential housing services. Minister Croal explained that once the building is completed, a Regional Housing Officer will be appointed to ensure residents have a dedicated point of contact for all housing-related matters.
The Minister highlighted the importance of establishing a permanent presence in the region, noting that following a recent land allocation exercise in Mabaruma, there has been a noticeable increase in house lot applications. Additionally, with plans underway for a new housing development in the Matarkai sub-district, the local office will be vital in managing the growing demand and administrative responsibilities.
“In order to enhance and to provide easier service, the staff will be coming to the region,” Minister Croal stated.

He further emphasized that the government remains committed to improving the lives of citizens by ensuring that essential services are delivered directly within their communities.
