More than $1B worth of cannabis destroyed in Joint Police Operation

Over $1 billion worth of cannabis was found and destroyed on Wednesday during a joint narcotics eradication exercise conducted by ranks of the Guyana Police Force’s Narcotics Branch and Regional Police Division #6 at Kuyorokuri Creek, Upper Berbice River.

According to police, the operation uncovered an open savannah where six cannabis farms spanning 21 acres were being cultivated.

The farms contained an estimated 118,000 cannabis plants measuring between two to seven feet in height.

Eight camps and ten drying areas were also discovered. These contained a total of 2,500 pounds of dried cannabis, which along with the plants, camps, and drying areas, was destroyed by fire.

Police further reported that several pieces of farming equipment and machinery were seized at the site, including:
One tractor
Seven tilling machines
One chainsaw
Two generators
Six weeding machines
Three mist blowers
Sixteen spray cans
Nine water pumps

The exercise was incident-free, police confirmed.

The estimated street value of the narcotics destroyed was placed at $1,060,560,400.

This figure included $39,978,400 for the cannabis plants and $1,020,582,000 for the dried cannabis.

The Guyana Police Force said the successful operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat the cultivation and distribution of illegal narcotics across the country.
