The long-awaited New Demerara River Bridge will be officially commissioned on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 5:30 p.m., in a landmark event that is open to the public.
The bridge successfully completed rigorous load testing last week, confirming its readiness for use. Yesterday, it was adorned with a striking replica of the Cacique Crown, serving as a symbolic finishing touch ahead of its grand opening.
At the commissioning, citizens will have the opportunity to walk across the bridge, and organizers are encouraging attendees to wear comfortable shoes for the experience.
The New Demerara River Bridge is expected to transform transportation between East and West Demerara, significantly reducing traffic congestion while boosting commerce and connectivity.
Officials have promised a spectacular ceremony to mark the occasion.
