Guyana participates in Regional Education Symposium in Barbados

Guyana is being represented at the 2025 Regional Symposium and Policy Dialogue on Transforming Education, which opened in Barbados on September 30 and runs until October 2 under the theme “Stronger Together: Empowering Parents as Partners in Caribbean Education.”

The forum, hosted by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the Ministry of Educational Transformation, Barbados, brings together regional education leaders, parents, and stakeholders to explore ways of strengthening parent-school partnerships across the Caribbean.

From Guyana, Deputy Chief Education Officer with responsibility for School Support Services, Ms. Fazia Baksh; Coordinator of the PTA Unit, Ms. Nadia Hollingsworth; PTA Chair of Hope Secondary School, Ms. Mya Dornick; and PTA Chair of No. 56 Primary School, Ms. Indera Jafferally, are in attendance.

According to the organisers, the symposium will focus on topics such as “Parenting in a Digital Age,” “Advocating for Learners with Diverse Needs (Breaking Barriers),” “Parents and CXC: Partnering for Student Success,” “Fostering Inclusive, Collaborative Parent-School Partnerships,” “Elevating the Role of Parents in School Transformation,” and “Student and Youth Perspectives.”

The participation of Guyana’s education officials and parent representatives underscores the country’s commitment to strengthening family engagement in schools and ensuring education systems respond to the needs of modern learners.
