… safety concerns to be addressed, Griffith says
Bosai Minerals Group Guyana Incorporated (BMGGI) and the National Association of Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Employees (NAACIE) have reached an agreement that will see employees of the bauxite mining company receiving a retroactive 7.5 percent increase in 2025 and an 8 percent increase in 2026.
The agreement was reached during a conciliation meeting at the Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning on Monday, Minister Keoma Griffith confirmed.
Workers at the Linden-based company in Region Ten had gone on strike last Thursday over poor working conditions and wage demands. They rejected the company’s proposed 7 percent across-the-board increase, calling instead for 10 percent. The strike ended on Friday following the ministry’s intervention, which led to the signing of a Terms of Resumption agreement.
Speaking with Ignite News on Tuesday, Minister Griffith said Monday’s meeting also resulted in agreements on meal allowances.
With respect to the safety concerns raised by employees, Griffith noted that the ministry will act. “My Health and Safety department will be conducting inspections very soon,” the Minister said.
He further pointed out that salary disputes at the company have been recurring issues.
“The law provides a mechanism to allow for these conversations between the parties. So, if these issues arise, the ministry is more than available to facilitate dialogue between the two sides,” he said.
