Labour Ministry opens probe into workplace death at Bachelor’s Adventure

The Ministry of Labour has opened an investigation into a fatal workplace accident that killed a 28-year-old man on Monday at Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara.

The victim, identified as Dayrovis Martinez Mendoza of Foulis, East Coast Demerara, died after a fence measuring about 15 feet high and 120 feet long collapsed, pinning him beneath the rubble.

Labour Minister Keoma D. Griffith visited the site shortly after the incident and conveyed condolences to Mendoza’s family, friends and colleagues on behalf of the government.

Officers from the Occupational Safety and Health Department have begun probing the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The ministry said it would take “all necessary steps” to prevent similar incidents and pledged to strengthen workplace safety and awareness across Guyana. It also reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing occupational health standards and holding employers accountable for non-compliance.
