Police in Regional Division Two are investigating the death of 69-year-old pensioner Abdil Ramjan Khan, whose body was discovered on Monday in the Supenaam Creek, Essequibo Coast.
A senior police rank and detectives found Khan’s body floating near the Farmers’ Wharf after receiving a report around 07:10 hrs. Blood was seen oozing from his ear, but no visible marks of violence were observed.
The body was identified by his son-in-law, Navindra Thomas, and later pronounced dead at Suddie Public Hospital by Dr Beharry. It was taken to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Police said CCTV footage from a nearby house showed Khan falling into the water.
According to Thomas, Khan had left Wakenaam Island alone on Sunday morning in a wooden boat powered by a 40 HP engine to purchase parts at Supenaam. Later that evening, Thomas found the boat moored at the waterfront with Khan’s clothes on the ground nearby. He filed a missing person report with the Aurora Police Station that night.
The investigation is ongoing.
