Guyana has paved the way for a historic long-distance robotic cardiac surgery set to transform the way the country accesses healthcare, with the procedure scheduled to take place today.
President Dr Irfaan Ali made the announcement on Monday evening during the Diamond Jubilee flag-raising ceremony on Fort Island, describing the operation as a landmark procedure that would place Guyana in the annals of medical history.
“We will firmly set our footprints in the history of healthcare when, from Guyana, SSI Mantra Freedom 60 performs a cardiac surgery from Guyana to India. The longest-distance surgery in the history of mankind will be performed from the shores of Guyana,” he said.
The President emphasised Guyana’s commitment to developing its services and methods of delivery through technology and modern systems.
“This is a country we are building that is not afraid to embrace any tool necessary to position us not only as a player in the global economy, but as a competitive player looking to take its place in the front row of global stability and prosperity,” he said.
The SSI Mantra is a pioneering modular multi-arm surgical robotic system developed by SS Innovations to make minimally invasive robotic surgery more accessible and cost-effective worldwide.
