PSC says elections reflected voters’ will, urges end to doubts

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) has affirmed that the 2025 General and Regional Elections reflected the will of the people and urged political actors to refrain from casting doubt on the results.

In a statement, the PSC, while not referring directly to APNU presidential candidate Aubrey Norton, said it notes with concern the use of excerpts from the European Union Election Observation Mission’s (EU EOM) preliminary report to question the legitimacy of the electoral process.

Norton had highlighted sections of the report dealing with campaign finance, media imbalance, and other issues in his call for the elections to be aborted.

According to the PSC, the EU’s findings were clear: election day was peaceful, orderly, and efficiently managed, with transparent procedures and professional polling staff. Voting and counting were also assessed positively, with Statements of Poll posted publicly in line with the law.

The PSC said the EU, like other observer groups, recommended future reforms in areas such as campaign finance, media balance, and the structure of GECOM, but stressed that these did not amount to evidence of fraud or undermine the results.

It added that the Carter Center, the Commonwealth Observer Group, and CARICOM also confirmed the polls were peaceful and credible.

“The 2025 elections faithfully reflected the will of the Guyanese people,” the PSC said
