The 2025 General and Regional Elections were among the country’s most efficient and peaceful, the Private Sector Commission (PSC) said on Thursday, joining international observers in praising the vote as transparent and well managed.

PSC Chairman Captain Jerry Gouveia Jr. described the polls as “one of the most, if not the most, efficient and peaceful elections our nation has ever experienced.” He credited the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) for timely publication of results, saying, “The timely posting of results and information online for the public to view has been instrumental in setting a very strong standard for transparency and accountability.”

Gouveia said the PSC was satisfied that GECOM’s declaration of results is “beyond challenge,” adding: “We are fully confident in GECOM’s execution of both the electoral process and the recount, and we commend them for conducting it in a free, fair, transparent, and efficient manner.”

He urged improvements in voter access and comfort, calling for better signage at polling stations, improved accommodations for differently abled people, and enhanced ventilation for staff and voters. He also praised the professionalism of party agents and security forces, saying their conduct “contributed to the smooth conduct of voting and counting.”

International observer groups echoed the PSC’s views. The European Union mission described the polls as peaceful and efficiently managed but flagged concerns over campaign finance and incumbency advantages. The Commonwealth Observer Group reported that polling day was calm and orderly. CARICOM observers welcomed GECOM’s real-time posting of Statements of Poll, introduced after the disputed 2020 elections.

With the ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) winning a historic landslide, including in Region Four, and the new We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party emerging as the main opposition, observers said the polls reshaped Guyana’s political landscape.
