The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) said the government’s $30,000 pensioners’ electricity subsidy will be credited to eligible customers’ accounts this month.
In a statement on Thursday, GPL said postpaid pensioners will see the subsidy reflected as a credit on their June 2026 electricity bills.
Eligible prepaid customers will receive the subsidy in their prepaid wallets, which can be accessed through GPL commercial offices.
The annual subsidy forms part of the government’s programme to provide financial relief to senior citizens and help offset rising electricity costs, GPL said.
The utility company said the initiative is intended to improve affordability of essential services and support the welfare and quality of life of pensioners.
GPL said it is working to facilitate the distribution of the subsidy and encouraged eligible customers to check their accounts.
It advised pensioners who do not see the credit reflected this month to contact the nearest GPL office for assistance.
