Two men lost their lives early this morning in a tragic accident on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, in the vicinity of Adventure.
According to a police report, dead are 40-year-old Kowmalram Ramin, the driver of motor car PLL 6554, and his passenger, 29-year-old Fitzgerald Authur Carter. Both men were from West Berbice.
The fatal collision occurred around 05:10 hrs and involved Ramin’s car and a minibus, BAE 1526, driven by 32-year-old Immanuel Dorris of Central Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden. Several passengers were on board the minibus at the time.
Initial investigations indicate that the car was heading south while the minibus was travelling north. According to the minibus driver, he observed the car approaching at a high speed. As the car neared a section of the roadway under construction, it reportedly began to skid and veered into the path of the minibus.
Despite efforts to brake, the minibus collided with the car. The impact resulted in injuries to all involved. Public-spirited citizens assisted the injured minibus passengers and driver, who were taken to the Linden Hospital Complex for treatment and kept for observation.
Ramin and Carter were extracted from the wreckage and rushed to the same facility by police ranks but were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have been taken to the hospital mortuary, where post-mortem examinations are expected to be conducted.
Police investigations into the fatal crash are ongoing.
