Education officers across various regions have teamed up to equip themselves with the relevant knowledge, strategies, and motivation to implement meaningful improvements in their respective education districts.
The first-quarter meeting wrapped up in Region 10 on Friday and was held under the theme, “Building a Sustainable Learning Ecosystem Across Education Districts in Guyana Together.”
It brought together Regional Education Officers (REdOs) from the 10 districts, along with the Principal Education Officer of Georgetown, to engage in meaningful discussions aimed at strengthening the education system.
The four-day meetings served as a platform for collaboration, capacity building, and a collective effort to enhance Guyana’s education system.
On the first day, the Regional Education Officers were divided into five teams and, along with Education Officers from Region 10, visited nursery, primary, and secondary schools.
The visits provided an opportunity to share best practices and focus on key areas such as the Guyana Nursery Curriculum, preparation for the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA), School-Based Assessments (SBAs), and overall curriculum coverage.
According to the Ministry of Education, the findings from these visits will be compiled into reports that will contribute to improvements across the region.
There were also a series of presentations and discussions led by key education officials.
Chief Education Officer, Saddam Hussain, delivered a presentation on accountability and leadership, emphasising their importance in driving improved performance across all levels of the education system.
Meanwhile, Assistant Chief Education Officer – Nursery, Devendra Persaud, led an engaging discussion on the Guyana Nursery Renewed Curriculum, providing valuable insights into its implementation.
This was followed by a presentation from Cladell Ally-Bristol, an Education Officer from the National Literacy Department, who focused on Literacy Across Levels.
Her presentation highlighted the department’s ongoing work in literacy development.
Regional Education Officers also shared perspectives, experiences, and strategies for enhancing education in their respective regions.
Additionally, there were valuable presentations from key education officials, including Deputy Chief Education Officer (Exams), Ameer Ali, who addressed matters related to the NGSA and offered insights into its current structure.
Assistant Chief Education Officer (Secondary), Sherwyn Blackman, conducted a presentation on Marketing Secondary Education: Roadmap to Students’ Success, in which he outlined strategies for promoting and enhancing secondary education in the country.
Vice Principal – Development from the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE), Tamsin Henry-Granville, also shared insights on various matters related to the operation of CPCE centres across Guyana, the challenges and opportunities within the institution, and its impact on professional development.
