Melanie Football Club and Plaisance United have been crowned champions of the Commander’s Cup Youth Football Competition, which concluded recently under the coordination of Regional Division 4 ‘C’ and the East Demerara Football Association (EDFA).
The tournament featured 26 teams across the Under-13 and Under-17 categories, with participation from EDFA-affiliated clubs and Police Youth Groups, organisers said, making it one of the most competitive editions to date.
In the Under-13 division, Plaisance United defeated Golden Grove Stars in the final to claim the title, while Melanie secured third place. Joshuan Connell was named both Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper, and Shaquille Callender finished as top scorer.
Melanie Football Club won the Under-17 title after beating BV/Triumph United in the final. Buxton United placed third. Keena Petrie was named MVP, Jermain Cox won Best Goalkeeper, and Trevon Glasgow finished as top scorer.
Organisers thanked sponsors GuyAmerica Construction Inc., Double D Trading and Distribution, Prestigious Imports and Exports, A & B Construction Inc., and Modern Graphics for their support, as well as the EDFA, volunteers, clubs and fans.
They said plans are underway to expand the tournament in future editions as part of efforts to promote youth development and community unity through football.
