The Ministry of Public Works has intensified efforts to ensure timely payments for ongoing infrastructure projects in Region Six.
Regional officers and engineers have collaborated to identify contractors awaiting payments, prioritising those who have successfully completed key stages of their work.
As a result, 143 contractors received their payments last Friday at the Regional Democratic Council (RDC). To facilitate efficient distribution, larger sums were disbursed via cheque, while approximately 22 contractors received cash payments in prepared envelopes to streamline the process.
Public Works Minister, Bishop Juan Edghill, oversaw the distribution and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to settling payments swiftly to minimise inconvenience for contractors.
He also urged contractors to inform their colleagues when payments are ready to prevent unnecessary trips to the city.
With road construction projects in the region approaching their final phase, the minister has set a deadline of March 31 to complete all remaining work.
He emphasised the urgency of finalising this phase before proceeding with the next programme.
To ensure progress remains on track, a ministry team is conducting thorough inspections of all unfinished roads. Their objective is to assess outstanding work, gather accurate data on remaining tasks, and improve project monitoring.
