The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and representatives of the Chinese Embassy and Chinese Association of Guyana have discussed ways to strengthen the safety and security of Chinese-owned businesses as the holiday season approaches.

The issue was among several areas addressed during a courtesy meeting hosted by the GCCI.

Discussions focused on preventative security measures, greater awareness of local business requirements and improved communication and coordination between the Chinese business community, the Embassy and relevant stakeholders.

The engagement also provided an opportunity to address challenges encountered by Guyanese businesses when sourcing goods from China and explore ways to expand trade between the two countries.

The GCCI highlighted the importance of helping its members identify legitimate Chinese suppliers and navigate cross-border transactions with greater confidence.

Representing the Chamber were Senior Vice President Gavin Ramsoondar, Junior Vice President Kristia Ramlagan-Prescott and Councillor Delmar Walcott.

The Chinese delegation included Wang and Tori Han of the Embassy's Consular Affairs Department, alongside May Cheung, Secretary of the Chinese Association of Guyana.

The meeting forms part of efforts to strengthen engagement between the two countries' business communities, with particular attention to security concerns and opportunities for greater commercial cooperation.
