President Dr Irfaan Ali has congratulated Grenada’s Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell on his re-election, describing his renewed mandate as a vote of confidence in his leadership and an endorsement of his Government’s policies and vision.

Ali said he looked forward to strengthening cooperation between Guyana and Grenada during Mitchell’s second term, particularly in advancing regional integration.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Guyana, I extend best wishes for a successful new term and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Grenada,” Ali said.

Mitchell comfortably retained his St David seat in Thursday’s general election, defeating main opposition New National Party (NNP) candidate Noleen Roxanne James Thompson by 5,318 votes to 2,138, according to local media outlet Now Grenada.

His ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) was on course to secure at least 14 of the 15 seats in Parliament. Mitchell had called the election ahead of its constitutionally due date in 2027.

Following the victory, Mitchell announced that Friday, November 6, would be a public holiday.

The Honorary Consulate of Guyana in Grenada also congratulated Mitchell and the NDC, describing the result as an endorsement of the Prime Minister’s leadership and development agenda.

The Consulate said Guyana and Grenada shared longstanding bonds of friendship, cooperation and Caribbean solidarity, expressing hope for deeper bilateral relations and greater collaboration in regional integration and economic development.
