Pakistan pulled off a dramatic one-wicket victory over Australia to capture the 2026 International Masters Cricket (IMC) Over-40s World Cup title, chasing down a target of 282 in a tense grand final at the Guyana National Stadium.
The match appeared to be slipping away from Pakistan when they were reduced to 236 for seven, needing another 46 runs from 28 balls. Two costly run-outs further tilted the contest in Australia's favour, but Syed Fariduddin held his nerve to guide his team towards victory.
Fariduddin remained unbeaten on 24, while Captain JunaidNainitalwala struck the winning runs to seal the narrow victory.
Pakistan's successful chase was built on a crucial partnership between Adnan Akmal and Jawad Mansoor, who revived the innings after Australia had reduced them to 36 for four.
Akmal scored a superb 83 and shared a 115-run stand with Mansoor, who contributed 62. Australia's Jamie Panelli had earlier put Pakistan under pressure, taking four wickets for 48 runs.
Earlier, Australia posted 281 for six, powered by Greg Hunt's maiden Over-40s international century. Hunt, who had previously recorded 10 half-centuries, struck 103, including six sixes.
Captain Steve Paulsen also made a significant contribution with 70, helping Australia set a challenging target.
Fariduddin proved equally valuable with the ball, claiming four wickets for 40 runs before playing a decisive role in the tense finish.
Pakistan's victory capped a gripping final, with the team overcoming a difficult start and late setbacks to snatch the championship by just one wicket.
