A 36-year-old gold miner is in police custody after a 9mm pistol and five rounds of ammunition were allegedly found in his pants outside the Fort Wellington Police Station, West Coast Berbice.
Police in Regional Division Five said the discovery was made about 10:50pm on Wednesday during an operation.
Preliminary investigations indicate that ranks stopped a white Toyota Axio carrying two men and asked both to exit the vehicle before searching them.
Police said the pistol and ammunition were found concealed on the gold miner, who is of Laing Avenue, Georgetown.
He and the 33-year-old driver, of Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, were escorted to the station. The firearm and ammunition were lodged as evidence.
Both men remain in custody as investigations continue.
