Sean “Diddy” Combs was reportedly hospitalised with a head injury following an alleged fight with convicted drug trafficker Christopher “Dudus” Coke.
The alleged altercation occurred on Friday at the Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix, a low-security prison about 40 miles from Philadelphia, after Coke confronted Combs over allegations that he had got other inmates into trouble, TMZ reported.
Coke and other inmates were reportedly angered by a recent NBC News report alleging that Combs enjoyed special privileges in prison, including access to drugs and a contraband mobile phone.
Following the NBC News report, prison officials conducted two searches of the facility and confiscated mobile phones from Coke and other inmates, angering those affected, according to TMZ.
Coke, a former Jamaican drug kingpin who was extradited to the United States in 2010, has been serving a 23-year federal prison sentence since 2012, The Independent reported.
Following reports of Combs’ hospitalisation, a representative for the rapper said: “We are aware of the reports concerning Sean Combs and are working to confirm the circumstances. Sean’s health and well-being are our immediate concern, and we appreciate everyone who has reached out.”
Before the alleged altercation, People reported that Combs had been placed in solitary confinement following an NBC News report alleging that he had been seen with contraband items in prison.
A spokesperson for Combs criticised the media’s continued scrutiny of the rapper’s prison conditions.
“The continued scrutiny of every mundane detail of Sean Combs’s life in prison has reached the point where the media characterises ordinary prison life as news,” the spokesperson said. “The only real news is that Sean continues to serve his sentence while awaiting the court’s decision on his appeal.”
A spokesperson for the Federal Bureau of Prisons told NBC News that the agency does not comment on individual inmates’ conditions for “privacy, safety and security reasons”. (Yahoo! Entertainment)
