Police are investigating an armed robbery at a beverage depot in No. 2 Village, East Canje, Berbice, where three masked men, one armed with a handgun, reportedly escaped with an undisclosed sum of cash.
The robbery occurred at about 7:35 p.m. on Saturday, when a 57-year-old businessman was confronted in the cashier area of his establishment, located on the lower flat of his premises.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects stormed the depot armed with a handgun, a baseball bat and a cutlass. They reportedly approached the businessman, demanded money and relieved him of a quantity of cash before making their escape.
The trio reportedly fled the scene in a dark-grey motor car.
The businessman escaped the ordeal unharmed. The assailants remain at large.
Police say they have since obtained CCTV footage from the premises and are reviewing the recordings as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the robbery and identify the perpetrators.
