Growing up, Tandica Todd saw women being beaten and battered and wanted to do something to help. Now admitted to the Bar, she hopes to use her legal career to support women facing abuse and injustice.

Todd was admitted by Justice Hessaun Yassin, following a petition presented by attorney-at-law Keavon Bess.

Speaking with Ignite News following her admission Todd shared her motivation.

“One of my main goals for becoming an attorney was to bridge the gap between the injustice and helplessness of women. I grew up seeing women being beaten and battered and I wanted to do something about that,” she said.

Her admission also marks a family milestone: she is the first attorney on her maternal side, fulfilling a dream she held since childhood.

“Being the first attorney from my maternal side of the family, growing up this has always been a dream of mine. So today has been a very special day for me,” Todd said.

The journey came with challenges and setbacks, but Todd credited perseverance with helping her reach the finish line.

“Everyone would have endured some struggles, some setbacks. I think I'm no different from anyone else. We've had some challenges but perseverance is what got me here today,” she said.

She also credited her faith, saying prayer and fasting helped her through those difficulties.

As she begins her legal career, Todd wants to turn the concern she felt growing up into practical help for women experiencing abuse and struggling to secure justice.
