Linden Mayor Dominique Blair says a proposed public ferry service linking the mining town to Georgetown could provide an alternative transportation option and generate revenue for the municipality, although the idea remains at an early stage.

Blair said the proposal had recently been brought to his attention but would require consultations with relevant stakeholders, including maritime authorities, before it could be considered further.

He said the municipality was also exploring ways to improve Linden’s tourism sites and generate income through facilities offering recreational activities to residents and visitors.

Blair disclosed that he had been approached with a proposal to improve the town’s bandstand area, including the development of a landing facility and the installation of recreational equipment.

“I was just approached…to help improve our tourism site at the bandstand area… So it could bring in revenue or something… We need to engage maritime and some other persons. But I think it's a good thing… it's a nice idea,” he said.

The Mayor stressed that the ferry proposal had not yet been formally presented to the Council for consideration, adding that public consultation would be necessary if the initiative moves forward.

The proposal comes as the municipality explores opportunities to strengthen Linden’s tourism sector and identify new sources of revenue to support local development.
