Electric and hybrid vehicles drew attention at Berbice Expo 2026, where four companies showcased models for motorists seeking to cut fuel use and running costs.
The exhibitors promoted electric mobility as an alternative to conventional vehicles, citing lower running costs and newer technology.
Massy Motors displayed the all-electric MG Cyberster, along with several MG SUVs, the Nissan Frontier, the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy hybrid and the Jeep Wrangler. Representative Muhammad Ali noted that the Frontier is now offered at $12 million following changes to the tax structure, while most MG vehicles carry a six-year warranty and six years of free servicing. He added that expo discounts and financing were available.
"This is the MG Cyberster. It's all electric. The third of its kind in Guyana and the Caribbean," Ali said.
Farm Supplies Ltd. (FARMSUP), the official company of XPENG electric vehicles in Guyana, displayed the G6 Air. Representative Samuel Ramjattan said the G6 Air is priced at $7.5 million, the G6 Long Range at $8.5 million, the G6 Performance at $10 million and the X9 at $15.3 million. More models are expected next year.
Ramjattan stressed that servicing and certified replacement parts are available locally.
"We do the servicing locally here and we also stock the parts. So if somebody buys a vehicle they don't have to worry about after-sales support," he said.
He pointed out that the G6 features Nappa leather seats, dual wireless phone chargers, ventilated charging compartments, adjustable ambient lighting, front-seat massage functions, 360-degree cameras and self-parking technology.
"If you park in a tight spot or you see a parking space but it's too tight, you can just exit the vehicle and use your phone to control it and park it," he explained.
Green Power Solutions Inc. showcased vehicles from Dongfeng and Forthing. Chief Executive Officer Darren Ramdial said the Dongfeng Vigo pure-electric SUV was available through financing from $83,000 monthly, while the Dongfeng 007 sports sedan carried an expo discount of $250,000. Customers could access financing with a five per cent down payment of $425,000 and monthly payments of $111,000 over eight years.
He said a hybrid SUV, available in pure-electric and hybrid versions, was priced at $9 million at the expo.
"The total range of this SUV is 1,150 km. It's enough to take you to Lethem and you can charge in Brazil," Ramdial said.
BYD Guyana, represented by GT Automotive, presented the Yuan Pro, offered to qualifying customers from about $69,000 monthly. The electric SUV has a range of up to 410 kilometres, an eight-year Blade Battery warranty and a home wallbox charger.
At the Rose Hall Estate, East Canje, visitors examined the vehicles and asked about range, charging, servicing and financing. The companies said the expo also allowed them to gauge consumer interest in electric and hybrid vehicles.
