Guyana and Brazil are strengthening security cooperation along their shared southern border, with both countries focusing on tackling illegal mining, illicit trafficking and transnational criminal activity.
The commitment was reinforced during the 29th Regional Military Exchange between the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the Brazilian Armed Forces, recently held in Boa Vista, Brazil.
The meeting was co-chaired by Captain Vernon Burnett, MSM, and Brigadier General Roberto Pereira Angrizani, Commander of the 1st Jungle Infantry Brigade of the Brazilian Army.
Military representatives from both countries used the annual forum to discuss common security challenges and explore ways to improve coordination along the border. Particular attention was placed on the movement of illicit goods, illegal mining operations and criminal networks that operate across national boundaries.
The exchange also provided an opportunity for both sides to share operational information, strengthen situational awareness and coordinate responses to emerging threats.
The GDF says the continued engagement with Brazil forms part of efforts to safeguard its borders while deepening regional security cooperation.
Through sustained dialogue and collaboration, the two militaries are working to strengthen their ability to respond to cross-border threats and contribute to peace and stability along the Guyana-Brazil frontier.
