We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Member of Parliament Andre Lewis has resigned from the National Assembly, citing allegations against him and an ongoing investigation.

Lewis tendered his resignation in a letter to Speaker of the National Assembly Manzoor Nadir, with effect from the date of receipt.
The letter did not specify the nature of the allegations, which are alleged to be sexual in nature.

He said he made the decision "in light of allegations that have been made against me and the ongoing investigation into those allegations." He said that given the seriousness of the matter and the responsibilities of public office, resigning was "the appropriate course of action while the relevant processes are ongoing."

"For clarity, my resignation should not be construed as an admission of wrongdoing or as a determination of guilt," he said. Lewis added that he remains committed to due process and to allowing the relevant authorities to conduct their investigations.

He thanked the people of Guyana for the opportunity to serve and WIN for the confidence placed in him.

The resignation was submitted under Article 156(1)(a) of the Constitution of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana.
