Several classes recorded clean sweeps in Sunday's opening round of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) National Championships, before an oil spill ended the day early.
The spill left the South Dakota Circuit unfit for further racing despite one of the largest clean-up efforts to date, denying many competitors a 'three-peat'.
Shan Seejatan won both races in the Sports Tuner 1600cc class. In Race 1 he finished ahead of Mohamed Saifudeen Roshandin and Street Tuner 1500cc entrant Amjad Rahaman. He won Race 2 in 9:48.264, with Roshandin third overall and second in class. Azaad Hassan retired.
In the Street Tuner 1500cc class, Amjad Rahaman won Race 1 ahead of Jad Rahaman and Ryan Ramoutar. Ryan Rahaman took Race 2, followed by Amjad Rahaman and Paul Jiwanram.
Kevin Persaud won both races in the Superbikes Open class. He took Race 1 in 7:47.037, with Adrian Mohar second in class and Alain Hopkinson classified second overall. Persaud again led Hopkinson and Mohar in Race 2.
Matthew Vieira swept the Superbikes 600cc class, finishing ahead of Elan Rahaman and Junior DaSilva in Race 1. The result was identical in Race 2.
Salim Azeez won both Street Class Bikes races, clocking 8:08.698 in Race 1 and 8:19.776 in Race 2. Elwin Chase was second in Race 1 and third in Race 2, while Fitzpatrick Augustus was third in Race 1 and second in Race 2.
Nicholas Sawh won both races in the Rookie B Class. He took Race 1 in 9:14.523, finishing ahead of Rookie A driver Joshua Ramdehol and Female Class winner Malicia Lawrence. In Race 2, Sawh led in 9:19.004, with Ramdehol second overall and Phillip Paruag third. Within the Rookie B Class, Devesh Singh and Paruag completed the Race 1 podium behind Sawh, and Paruag and Singh took the places behind him in Race 2.
Ramdehol won the Rookie A Class in both races. Lawrence also won both races in the Female Class, placing third overall among the combined Rookie and Female field in Race 1 and fourth in Race 2.
Tommi Gore swept the Local Group 4 2WD class. He won Race 1 in 7:43.217, ahead of Andrew King and Rameez Mohamed, and led King again in Race 2. King was second in both races.
In Group 3, Anand Ramchand won Race 1 ahead of Danny Persaud and took Race 2 after Persaud retired following five laps.
Nasrudeen Mohamed won both Local Group 2 races. He took Race 1 in 9:48.228, ahead of Seejatan and Damian Singh, and led Seejatan again in Race 2, with Mohamed Shairaz Roshandin third.
Ramchand also won both Starlet Cup races. Da Silva was second in Race 1, and the podium was repeated in Race 2.
In the Vitz 'B' Class, Navin Singh won Race 1 ahead of Ryan Ramoutar and Shivan Raganauth. Singh also took Race 2, finishing ahead of Ramoutar and Devesh Singh.
Results of the Vitz 'A' Class were under review following a discrepancy.
