National Border Patrol Director Daniel Seeram was remanded to prison on Friday after Sparendaam Magistrate Abigail Gibbs found him guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm.

The charge stemmed from a September 11, 2023 incident at his Cummings Lodge home, in which he was accused of assaulting his wife, Farzana Hamid. Hamid made a police report, and Seeram was later granted $50,000 bail by the Sparendaam Magistrate's Court.

Gibbs found inconsistencies in Seeram's account, given under cross-examination, of how Hamid sustained her injuries. Hamid reportedly suffered bruising and injuries to her thigh, arm and head, mainly on her left side, as well as a black eye.

Seeram's lawyer, Attorney-at-Law Nigel Hughes, asked that he remain out of custody until sentencing, citing several grounds, including Seeram's national duties. The application was dismissed.

Seeram is a former Region Four Chairman who served under the APNU slate before crossing over to the PPP/C.
Sentencing is set for November 2 at 10:30am.
