Three teams have booked their places in the One Guyana T10 Tapeball Blast national final. Starting today, 32 Georgetown and East Coast Demerara teams will fight for the one spot still open, and a chance at the $2 million championship prize.

The final zonal leg begins today Saturday, September 26, with 16 knockout matches across the Malteenoes Sports Club, Ogle, Better Hope and Lusignan grounds.

Play starts at 9:30 a.m. at each venue, with four matches scheduled per ground. Admission is free.

There is little time to recover from a slow start.

Saturday’s winners return for the round of 16 on Sunday at the Demerara Cricket Club and Lusignan, before the eight surviving teams meet in the quarter-finals at Lusignan on October 3.

The zonal semi-finals and final follow at Enmore on October 4.

The team that comes through that crowded field will earn $500,000 and join Grillmaster Sip N Play All-Stars of Berbice, Mahdia-Movements Family of East Bank/West Demerara and Lusignan Bulls DTP II of Essequibo at the national final on October 11 at the Anna Regina National Stadium.

Tournament director John Ramsingh says the final qualifying leg features some of the competition’s strongest teams.

The national champion will collect $2 million, the runner-up $1 million, and each losing semi-finalist $500,000.

There are individual prizes on offer too: the tournament’s most valuable player will receive a motorbike and $150,000, while the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker will each collect $100,000 and a television.

For now, every side faces the same simple test: win this weekend or watch the last national-final place slip away.
