Hosororo Secondary School in Region One is emerging as one of Guyana’s most modern educational facilities, equipped to provide students with both academic opportunities and practical skills aligned with the needs of their communities.

The school features smart classrooms, fully equipped laboratories for Information Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Home Economics and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), along with modern dormitories and accommodation for teachers, an update from the Ministry of Education said today.

Minister of Education Sonia Parag, Permanent Secretary Shannielle Hoosein-Outar, Chief Education Officer Saddam Hussain and Acting Chief Education Officer (Secondary) Sherwyn Blackman recently visited the campus.

“This is a secondary school that will be giving not only access, but comfortable accommodation for students,” Parag said. “I’m really happy we are at that point where we can have all the students in, where we can have the teachers comfortably accommodated and provide that kind of access we really want.”

Blackman said the school is also positioned to benefit from the Ministry’s increased emphasis on TVET.

“With a big push on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the school has been adequately equipped to pursue such courses,” he said.

He identified furniture making, building technology and small motor repairs among the areas students could pursue.

The aim, he said, is “to ensure that all of what the community needs we will be able to prepare the young people to tap in and take those jobs.”

The Education Ministry said the school is expected to play a significant role in transforming the lives of hundreds of families across the Mabaruma Sub-District of the Barima-Waini Region.

In addition to mainstream academic subjects, students will graduate with at least one technical skill aligned with the needs and opportunities within their community.
