Police have launched an internal investigation into allegations that officers and immigration ranks along the Lethem Trail took bribes to facilitate the movement of foreign nationals through the border.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF), in a release, said Commissioner Clifton Hicken directed the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) to probe the claims after they surfaced on social media. Hicken said corruption and misconduct have no place in the Guyana Police Force, adding that no rank would be shielded where evidence establishes wrongdoing.

He said any member found to have acted unlawfully or breached regulations would face disciplinary action under the law.
The GPF appealed to anyone with relevant information to come forward to the OPR, saying it remains committed to professionalism, accountability and integrity among its ranks
