Police destroyed about 53,000 suspected cannabis plants valued at $22.04 million during an eradication exercise at Yaruni Bend, Linden, in the Upper Demerara River area on Thursday.
The exercise, conducted between 5:30 a.m. and 4:36 p.m., involved police ranks led by a Gazetted Officer, who located two cannabis farms covering a combined eight acres.
The plants, which ranged from two to six feet in height, were destroyed by fire.
Police also discovered two makeshift camps and two drying areas containing a combined 10 pounds of dried cannabis. These, along with the suspected cannabis plants, were also destroyed.
No arrests were made, and investigations are continuing.
