No documents of evidential value were destroyed, as suggested by media reports, in the ongoing committal proceedings involving the Mohameds, Police clarified in a statement on Friday.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said Senior Superintendent Prem Narine, during his testimony, produced and tendered the relevant official records required for the proceedings, including his statement detailing the actions taken in relation to the matter, the relevant Station Diary record, the executed arrest warrants and other required documents.
According to the GPF, in response to questions from the Defence concerning personal working notes used in preparing his statement, Narine testified that those notes had been disposed of in the official incinerator at Special Branch, in keeping with established procedures for disposing of sensitive working documents no longer required.
The GPF added that Narine further testified the working notes contained no information of evidential value to the proceedings, and that the relevant information had already been incorporated into his statement.
Police rejected any suggestion that documents of evidential value relating to the proceedings were destroyed, maintaining that the relevant official records were preserved and tendered before the Court.
