Works on Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy Project have advanced substantially since June, with several major components now installed and critical infrastructure progressing across key areas of the facility, Prime Minister Mark Phillips said following a site inspection on Tuesday.
The Prime Minister, who has oversight responsibility for the energy sector and the Gas-to-Energy Project, said the visit formed part of his periodic assessment of the development to ensure works remain aligned with the established implementation schedule.
During the inspection, the delegation observed progress on the gas turbines, steam turbine, storage tanks, foundations, piping and other supporting systems, as well as works on the substation that will facilitate the transmission of power from the facility.
The current timeline provides for the first gas turbine to come online by the end of 2026, delivering approximately 57 megawatts of electricity to the national grid. The remaining units will subsequently be brought online in keeping with the project’s implementation schedule.
Prime Minister Phillips was accompanied by Minister of Public Utilities and Aviation Deodat Indar, Head of the Gas-to-Energy Task Force and Project Lead Winston Brassington, Senior Petroleum Coordinator at the Ministry of Natural Resources Bobby Gossai Jr, Head of GPL’s Executive Management Committee Kesh Nandlall and other technical officials from GPL and the project team.
