Qatar and Guyana discussed deepening investment cooperation, as Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and President Dr Irfaan Ali held official talks at the Amiri Diwan on Tuesday.
The two leaders discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, with particular focus on investment, alongside other topics of mutual interest.
President Ali thanked the Amir for his hospitality and affirmed his country’s commitment to advancing cooperation between the two nations. The Amir, in turn, welcomed the president and his delegation, expressing hope the visit would broaden joint cooperation prospects for both countries.
Following the talks, the two leaders held a bilateral meeting to exchange views on current regional and international developments.
The session was attended by senior officials from both sides, including Qatar’s Chief of the Amiri Diwan Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Khulaifi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, and Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi. Guyana’s delegation included Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Hugh Todd and Head of Presidential Affairs Marcia Mezan Sharma.
The Amir hosted a luncheon in honour of President Ali and the accompanying delegation, following an official reception ceremony earlier in the day.
Guyana and Qatar established diplomatic relations in August 1996, since strengthening cooperation across oil and gas, investment, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure. Guyana opened an embassy in Doha in 2023, spurring increased Qatari interest, including a Region Three stadium project and multiple MoUs on investment protection and political consultations.
