Public officials who breach procurement and payment regulations will face consequences, Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo warned on Monday , as he convened a meeting on accountability across government ministries and agencies.
The meeting, held at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre, brought together ministers, permanent secretaries, regional executive officers, and accounting officers of key semi-autonomous agencies to discuss measures for improving public sector management.
Discussions centred on strengthening transparency and accountability, particularly in procurement transactions, government payment systems, and public information dissemination, aimed at ensuring more effective delivery of government programmes.
Vice President Jagdeo emphasised the role of permanent secretaries and regional executive officers in complying with applicable laws while ensuring sound management of public resources entrusted to their ministries, regions and agencies.
He said initiatives to strengthen compliance tracking, including for procurement and payment systems, were also discussed.
Vice President Jagdeo reiterated the government’s commitment to effective service delivery through modern technology, aimed at improving citizens’ experience with state institutions and their overall quality of life.
