A 33-year-old contractor was shot in his left thigh during an armed robbery in Bel Air, Georgetown, on Monday, police said.
The victim was seated in the front passenger seat of a motor bus stopped at a traffic light on Conversation Tree Road at about 11am when two unidentified men approached on a black and red motorcycle, according to Regional Division #4’A’ police, who are investigating.
The pillion rider dismounted, drew a handgun and demanded the victim’s grey haversack, valued at $5,000 and containing personal documents, police said. When the victim refused, the suspect allegedly fired a round, striking him in the thigh, before taking the haversack.
Both men then fled south along Conversation Tree Road.
The victim was treated at a private medical facility, where his condition is listed as stable.
Detectives recovered a spent warhead from the bus and later found the motorcycle abandoned. CCTV footage is being reviewed and investigations continue.
