The Immigration Department will end walk-in passport applications from October 1, 2026, shifting to a fully online appointment system, authorities said.
Deputy Chief Immigration Officer Senior Superintendent of Police Stephen Telford said the new system is intended to make the application process more convenient by allowing applicants to select their preferred location, date and time.
“From the 1st of October 2026, we will now be accepting applications for passport only via the online application appointment system,” Telford said.
Under the new system, applicants will be required to make an appointment before visiting an Immigration Office or Government of Guyana Service Centre to submit their passport applications. Telford said the system will allow applicants to choose from available passport service locations across the country, including offices in Georgetown and Government Services Centres.
“We will no longer accept persons at any of the passport offices with persons walking in with the application,” he said.
The Immigration Department also warned citizens to be cautious when accessing the online appointment platform, amid the possibility of fraudulent websites or links being circulated. Telford identified the official platform and urged applicants to verify the website address before submitting personal information or making appointments.
“I would just want to alert you in the using of the online application platform. It is pp.gpf.gov.gy, and please be careful as it relates to using of the URL that may be fakely placed out there,” he said.
Citizens are being encouraged to complete the online application, select a suitable appointment and arrive at the designated location at the scheduled time. The new arrangement is expected to bring greater structure to passport services while giving applicants more control over when and where they complete the process.
