A 25-year-old Bush Lot Village bus driver was found bleeding from the mouth and motionless on his outside staircase on Sunday, hours after declining his mother’s invitation to church.
The deceased has been identified as Mahandra Samsuedar, of Lot 92, Section D, Middle Walk, Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice, who was reportedly not suffering from any known illness.
Police said he was found lying face down on the staircase between 9am and 1:45pm on the day in question.
According to police, Samsuedar’s mother, 49-year-old businesswoman Sheerena Samsuedar, last spoke with him at about 9am before leaving to attend church at the Number 23 Armdale Pentecostal Church. She invited her son to accompany her, but he declined and left her presence after taking some money from her.
When Sheerena returned home at about 1:45pm, she found her son lying face down on the staircase and calling out to him received no response. She raised an alarm, prompting public-spirited persons to assist, before going to the Fort Wellington Police Station to report the matter.
The deceased’s 78-year-old grandmother, Ragmatte Samsuedar, who lived with him, told police he left home at about 9am without saying where he was going. She said she could not say when he returned but recalled hearing a loud noise, which she did not consider significant at the time.
Ragmatte said she later heard her daughter and granddaughter screaming and, upon looking outside, saw Mahandra lying motionless on the stairs.
Investigations into the circumstances of his death are ongoing.
