Andray Duncan has been freed of a charge of simple larceny in connection with the theft of 1,000 ounces of gold valued at $400 million in 2022.
Principal Magistrate Allan Wilson delivered the ruling, finding there was no evidence to support the charge against Duncan. He was one of seven men charged in September 2022 over the alleged theft, along with Bhaloonauth Seegobin, Sabutaro Singh, Bisram Paul, Naime Chanram, Deo Kissoon and Daniel Grant.
Magistrate Wilson found Seegobin, Grant and Kissoon guilty and sentenced each to three years’ imprisonment. Seegobin was represented by Dexter Smartt and later by Attorney-at-Law Keoma Griffith, while Kissoon was represented by Neil Bollers. Duncan was represented by the Chambers of Eusi Anderson.
The magistrate noted that only 98 ounces of the gold allegedly stolen had been recovered or tendered into evidence.
Singh, one of the seven defendants, was murdered on December 21, 2022.
