A new Guyanese-led joint venture has entered the local energy market, with plans to provide specialised technical services while expanding training opportunities for Guyanese workers.
Allrig Guyana Incorporated was officially launched in Georgetown on September 11. The company is a partnership between international technical services provider Allrig Group and Guyanese-owned MBW Energy Support Services Incorporated.
It will offer engineering, inspection, equipment supply, installation, commissioning and asset integrity services to companies operating in Guyana’s energy and industrial sectors.
Director of Allrig Guyana and founder and Chief Executive Officer of MBW, Abbigale Loncke, said the partnership is intended to combine international expertise with MBW’s understanding of Guyana’s regulatory environment and business landscape.
“We don’t want Guyana simply to be the place where the work happens. We want Guyanese people to increasingly have the skills and capability to do that work,” Loncke said.
The companies are also exploring the establishment of a technician academy in Guyana. The proposed facility would draw on training models already used across Allrig’s international operations.
No timeline has been announced for the academy. However, Loncke said technical training and knowledge transfer would form part of the company’s long-term plans.
She argued that Guyana’s Local Content programme must go beyond meeting employment or procurement requirements and lead to the development of internationally competitive skills.
“International investment creates tremendous opportunities, but our success as a country will also be measured by how much knowledge is transferred, how many Guyanese acquire internationally competitive skills and how many local companies become stronger as a result,” she said.
Allrig Group operates 20 offices and employs more than 500 people worldwide. It will contribute specialist personnel, technical systems and project experience to the venture.
MBW will provide local market and regulatory knowledge, infrastructure and access to established resource networks. The Guyanese company already provides recruitment, logistics, procurement, immigration and other support services to local and international businesses.
Allrig Guyana’s board comprises Loncke, Omar Petty and Euan Kennedy.
The company will now begin building its local operations and pursuing contracts with operators and contractors across Guyana’s energy and industrial sectors.
