Pensioners across Guyana are being urged to avoid long lines and unnecessary crowding as distribution of the Government’s annual $20,000 transportation allowance begins tomorrow.
Human Services and Social Security Minister Dr Vindhya Persaud said arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and convenient process nationwide, with all post offices across the country supplied with the necessary stamps to allow pensioners to have their vouchers stamped and encashed at the same location.
“All the post offices across Guyana have been furnished with stamps so that you can go to the post offices near you, stamp your voucher, and encash at the same time,” she said.
Beneficiaries may also visit any Ministry of Human Services and Social Security office to have their vouchers stamped, according to Persaud.
Persaud said there is no need for pensioners to rush to collection points on the first day, noting the exercise will run until 1 November.
“The process starts tomorrow and ends on the 1st of November 2026. Therefore, I don’t want you to line up and I don’t want there to be a lot of lines,” she said.
Pensioners can visit a post office and complete the process on any day during the distribution period, which Persaud said would reduce congestion and wait times.
She also reminded beneficiaries who receive their pensions through bank transfers or the Mobile Money Guyana (MMG) platform that the transportation allowance will be deposited directly into their bank accounts or paid through MMG.
