A new multipurpose building and library were commissioned, and a truck was handed over to Bethany Village on Friday as part of ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life in hinterland communities.
Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Priya Manickchand led the commissioning ceremony in the community, located along the Supenaam Creek.
The multipurpose building will serve as a venue for educational programmes, community meetings, training sessions and recreational activities, while the library is expected to promote literacy and provide students and residents with greater access to learning resources.
Manickchand said she was pleased to deliver another project that will benefit Bethany and neighbouring communities along the Supenaam Creek, noting that the facility was designed to support educational and community initiatives for years to come.
Member of Parliament and Toshao of Bethany Village, Sonia Latchman, said the village continues to witness significant development through sustained government investment, describing the facility as another milestone that reflects the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and expanding opportunities for hinterland residents.
Residents expressed appreciation for the investments, saying the building would become an important hub for community life.
The commissioning marked the start of the government’s two-day Cabinet outreach in Region Two, during which ministers are meeting with residents to listen to their concerns and provide solutions.
