The Constitution Reform Commission has opened the door for public input on constitutional reform, with elections, judicial independence and human rights among the areas earmarked for review.
According to a notice dated June 23, citizens are invited to provide written submissions for alterations to the relevant legislation. Other areas under review include integrity in public office and race relations, among others.
Minister of Legal Affairs and Attorney General Anil Nandlall said on Tuesday’s “Issues in the News” programme that citizens’ contributions would be instrumental in shaping the amendments.
He said that while written submissions are currently being accepted, later engagements would facilitate face-to-face dialogue, allowing stakeholders to further share their views on the relevant legislation.
Submissions can be delivered to the Office of the Secretariat on the fifth floor of the Constitution Reform Commission, located at Camp and Lamaha Streets, Georgetown, or sent via email to gycrc2024@gmail.com, along with a scanned copy of photo identification, Nandlall said.
