Three men have surrendered to police custody in the presence of their attorney in relation to a violent chopping incident that left two persons seriously injured in Rose Hall Town last Saturday, as investigations continue into what has been described as a chaotic and escalating dispute.
Attorney-at-law Vinay Punwa confirmed that his clients voluntarily surrendered to investigators and were taken into custody without resistance.
He stated that he ensured that a physical examination of the men was conducted to confirm they had no marks of violence or injuries before being placed in custody and that the process was recorded. He maintained that his clients are cooperating fully with investigators.
Punwa also said one of his clients had earlier made a report alleging that he was assaulted by a relative of another individual involved in the matter, claiming he was slapped and threatened. He said that report is also being reviewed as part of the wider investigation.
The arrests come as police continue to investigate a violent confrontation that occurred around 10:00 hrs on June 13, 2026, at Mattai Street, Rose Hall Town, which left two men hospitalised and sparked multiple allegations from several parties.
One of the injured men, cattle farmer Mahendra Samaroo, recounted during an interview that he was visiting a residence with his young son when he observed a group of men approaching.
He alleged that he was attacked with a cutlass, during which he sustained severe injuries, including the severing of fingers on his left hand and wounds to his head. Samaroo said he escaped by pushing his son to safety and fleeing the scene, later seeking medical attention.
Samaroo also claimed that during the attack, he encountered several armed individuals and that shots were fired in his direction, further escalating the situation. He has since expressed fear for his safety and called for justice.
The mother of one of the injured men, Owen Briddajer, has disputed parts of the allegations, stating that her son was also severely injured during the incident. She said she was alerted to the disturbance and found him lying on the ground in a badly injured state, including wounds to his face, hands, and foot. She is also calling for a thorough investigation.
Police have confirmed that two suspects are currently in custody assisting with investigations as officers work to establish the sequence of events and determine the roles of all parties involved in the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
