Drone technology has been used to deliver medical supplies to the remote Moraikobai Health Centre along the Mahaicony River, marking a significant step toward improving healthcare access in hard-to-reach communities.
The delivery, completed over the weekend, bypassed the geographical barriers that have long hindered the timely distribution of medicines and medical supplies to hinterland and riverine areas of Guyana, where distance, terrain, and weather conditions have historically challenged traditional transportation methods.
Health Minister Dr Frank Anthony said the successful flight demonstrated the potential of drone technology to transform healthcare logistics, particularly during emergencies and floods, when conventional supply routes are most vulnerable.
The Health Ministry said it plans to integrate drone delivery more broadly into the national healthcare supply chain, reducing response times and ensuring essential medicines reach remote residents faster.
The initiative forms part of a broader government push to build a resilient, equitable, and future-ready healthcare system that ensures no community is left behind in accessing quality care.
