From public servants to pensioners in remote hinterland communities, 424,681 Guyanese have now collected a combined $42.5 billion under the government’s national cash grant programme.
Senior Minister with Responsibility for Finance Dr Ashni Singh said the distribution process was continuing smoothly, with more citizens receiving the one-time grant of $100,000 since the last update.
Of those paid, 48,858 are central government employees, including public servants, teachers and members of the disciplined forces, who received $4.9 billion in March.
Another 279,546 people who registered through an online portal launched in March have received payments directly into their bank accounts, Singh said. A further 4,053 are still being processed.
Authorities said they had also sent teams to register people in remote and hinterland areas without bank access, as well as those in shelters, hostels and homes for the elderly. Some 96,277 people in that category have been processed for payment by cheque.
Singh urged citizens who have not yet registered to do so via the portal at cashgrant.gov.gy.
