DPP recommends charges for two men linked to discovery of AK-47s

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has advised that Gregory Persaud be charged with possession of a firearm magazine in connection with the discovery of 10 AK-47 rifles on May 22, 2026, the Guyana Police Force said.

According to the advice, Persaud is to be charged under Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.

The DPP has also advised that Antonio Alonzo Lawrie and Persaud be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony under Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

The Guyana Police Force said it has received the advice and is taking the necessary steps in keeping with the legal process.
